The short version: Avyline is built offline-first. Your location and your tracks are processed and stored entirely on your device. We have no servers that receive them, no accounts, no advertising, and no third-party analytics. If it isn't on your phone, we don't have it.
Avyline is an offline 3D slope and avalanche-terrain safety map for backcountry skiers and riders, developed and published by an independent developer. This policy explains what data the app touches and, just as importantly, what it deliberately does not.
Location is the core of what Avyline does. With your permission we use your device's GPS (and, where available, the barometer and compass) to:
All of this happens on your device. Location coordinates are never transmitted to us or to any third party, and are never used for advertising or profiling. You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; the map remains usable, but live slope and alert features will be unavailable.
Recorded tracks, saved waypoints and planned routes are stored as files on your device only. Exporting a GPX file is always initiated by you, and the file is handed to the iOS share sheet — we never receive it. Deleting the app deletes all of this data with it.
Avalanche danger ratings are fetched from official public warning services (for example avalanche.org and its member forecast centers, the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, and EAWS members). Terrain, imagery, land cover and place names come from public datasets (USGS, Copernicus Sentinel via EOX, OpenStreetMap, ESA WorldCover, Natural Earth and others). When the app requests a forecast it asks for a forecast zone, not your precise position; these services receive no personal data from us. Each source is credited in the app's About page under its own license and is governed by its own privacy policy.
Pro subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details. Apple's receipt validation is used only to confirm an active entitlement. Subscription management and cancellation are done in your Apple ID settings. Apple's privacy practices govern this part of the transaction.
Avyline is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Backcountry travel is an adult-supervised activity and the app is designed accordingly.
Because personal data never leaves your device, "retention" is in your hands: your tracks and waypoints persist until you delete them in the app or uninstall it. There is no server-side copy for us to delete, because none exists.
Avyline is a decision-support tool, not a substitute for formal avalanche training, a current official forecast, or your own judgment. Slope angles are derived from digital elevation data with finite accuracy and are shown in the app with that uncertainty. Never rely on any single app in avalanche terrain.
If we make material changes we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will also be surfaced inside the app.
